Chinese Real Estate Directors Face Tax Evasion Charges in Kenya

On October 9, 2019, the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) announced the arrest of three Chinese nationals in Nairobi for tax evasion worth KSh 26 million.

The directors of Tianyi Limited, Zhang Xiaodong, Ming Zhao, and He Yougig, were arrested for failing to declare taxes on the sale of 171 housing units known as River Park Estate in Athi River.

According to KRA Commissioner David Yego, investigations showed that the directors failed to declare and remit taxes amounting to KSh 26 million from the sale of the housing units.

The three suspects paid a bail of KSh 100,000 and will appear in court on October 14, 2019.
