On October 9, 2019, Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko intervened in the City Hall power struggle, reinstating Speaker Beatrice Elachi and ousting Majority Leader Abdi Guyo.

Elachi had been reinstated by the High Court after being previously impeached, and had officially resumed office earlier that morning.

However, her return to office was short-lived, as Majority Leader Guyo, who had led the ouster of the speaker, ganged up with Jubilee MCAs and stormed the speaker's office, leading to chaos and vandalism.

But in a surprise move, Sonko terminated Guyo as the Majority Leader, citing his sustained attacks and intimidation towards the speaker and county staff as the reason.

Sonko nominated Maringo Hamza MCA, Hon. Mark Ndung'u, to take over from Guyo as the new Majority Leader.

Elachi stood her ground amidst the chaos, and Sonko's intervention marked a significant shift in the power dynamics at City Hall.
