On Wednesday, October 9, 2019, a glimmer of hope emerged from the Likoni channel, where a vehicle had slipped into the waters over a week ago.
Thanks to an underwater robotic sonar equipment, the exact location of the car was pinpointed, with the device navigating depths of over 50 meters.
Initial reports suggest that at least one body has been spotted inside the vehicle, which was carrying a mother and her daughter.
Government officials confirmed that the car had been located 58 meters below the surface, but cautioned that the number plates would need to be checked to confirm the identity of the vehicle.
According to the government spokesman, sonar equipment initially identified the spot, followed by visual confirmation from underwater cameras and later divers.
The car was found leaning on one side, but the government has promised to recover it.
This is a developing story.
