On October 9, 2019, Safaricom's acting CEO Michael Joseph announced that the company would change the M-PESA logo for seven days to support Eliud Kipchoge's INEOS 1:59 Challenge.

According to Safaricom, the company currently has 21 million active users on its M-PESA platform, as reported in the company's latest earnings report.

As an ambassador for Safaricom's M-PESA service, Eliud Kipchoge enables individuals to send and receive money across the globe.

In support of Kipchoge's challenge, Safaricom has promised its subscribers a free SMS line to send congratulatory messages to the World's greatest marathoner.

Subscribers will also receive free bundles to stream INEOS 1:59 on YouTube.

As part of the initiative, Safaricom has dedicated a free SMS line where users can send their messages to the number 159, and during the race, their messages will be broadcasted live on Kenyan TV alongside the challenge.
