As the Likoni recovery mission enters its 10th day, the Kenya navy has docked at the Mbaraki Wharf in the Likoni channel until further notice. The move comes after the Government failed to deploy equipment required to aid a successful retrieval.

According to sources, the equipment that was procured on Sunday, as promised by the Government, has yet to be deployed on site. This has resulted in a significant delay in the recovery mission, which is tasked with retrieving the bodies of Mariam Kagenda and her daughter who plunged into the ocean 10 days ago.

Residents have expressed frustration with the slow pace of the recovery mission, citing a lack of sympathy from the Kenya Ferry Services (KFS) management. The Inter-Agency team tasked with the retrieval has reportedly only covered four of the 14 mapped locations in the active search for the bodies.

Contrary to reports by Police Spokesman Cyrus Oguna, it has emerged that the team has not combed 14 locations as claimed. The lack of progress has led to widespread criticism of the Government's handling of the situation.
