On Wednesday, October 9, 2019, embattled Speaker Beatrice Elachi made a forceful comeback to her office at Nairobi County Assembly, marking a significant development in the ongoing standoff between her and the assembly's leadership.
According to reports, Elachi was escorted to the office by an estimated 20 ODM ward representatives at 7am, sparking concerns about the safety and security of the assembly's premises.
"The leadership has manipulated the county assembly, the governor, it's abuse against women….Leo sitoki ata Kama ni wiki tutaona mwenye atatoka hapa," Elachi said in a statement, vowing to fight her ouster and move "all the way up to the Supreme Court if necessary."
Elachi's return follows her impeachment on September 6, 2018, after 103 members of the county assembly voted against her. However, the High Court reinstated her in September 2019, dealing a blow to the MCAs who had sought to remove her from office.
Despite the court's ruling, sources close to Citizen Digital reveal that plans by a section of county assembly members are underway to forcefully eject her once again.
