On September 12, 2019, Pendo's mzungu ex-lover, Joseph Kner, took to Instagram to clarify the nature of his relationship with the socialite. In response to a fan's question about his engagement to Pendo, Kner stated, 'Staged, facked, unreal. All for the entertainment for Nairobi Diaries.'
According to Kner, the proposal was a stunt to promote the reality TV show, and he had other personal plans that he had previously explained. He also expressed his disappointment with Pendo for mentioning him, stating that she had no business doing so, implying that she was only in it for the money.
