On October 9, 2019, AC Milan announced the departure of their head coach Marco Giampaolo, just two months into the 2019-20 season.

The 52-year-old Swiss-born tactician was sacked after losing four of his last seven matches in the Serie A this season.

Giampaolo was hired as replacement for Gennaro Gattuso in the summer of 2019, but his tenure was short-lived.

AC Milan have lined up Stefano Pioli as his replacement, with the Italian coach reportedly set to sign a one-year contract with the option of a second.

Despite guiding his side to a 2-1 away win against Genoa last weekend, it was not enough to save his job, with the club citing poor results as the reason for his departure.

AC Milan are currently 13th on the Italian League table with just nine points so far this campaign.

Giampaolo managed just three wins out of their last seven matches, losing 12 out of a possible 21 available in the past matches.

AC Milan announced the departure of the manager on their official website, stating: "AC Milan announces it has relieved Mr. Marco Giampaolo from his position as coach of the First Team."

The club added: "The Club is grateful to Marco for the work carried out and wishes him all the best to come in his professional career."
