Uganda police have cancelled a concert by Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi, alias Bobi Wine, scheduled for October 9, coinciding with the country's Independence Day celebrations.

The cancellation was announced by Inspector General of Police Martin Okoth Ochola in a letter dated October 2, citing concerns over security and crowd control.

According to the letter, Bobi Wine did not consider plans for medical care, traffic, and crowd control, which are essential for a successful event.

"This serves to inform you that the notice to the Inspector General of Police has remarkable deficiencies, which do not guarantee lawfulness, safety, security for the public and organisers," the letter reads.

However, Bobi Wine, a musician turned politician, has dismissed the cancellation, stating that he had not received any letter from the police and would proceed with the concert as planned.

This is not the first time Bobi Wine's concerts have been cancelled. In April 2019, police stopped another concert on grounds that he had not followed procedure, and in May 2017, he joined politics as Kyadondo East MP, since when more than 125 music concerts have been cancelled.
