On October 9, 2019, the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) announced plans to establish a training institute in Tseikuru Sub county, a project expected to be complete by September 2020.
During a site visit in Tseikuru, Chairman of KMTC Prof Philip Kaloki revealed that the institution has allocated 100 million shillings for equipping, employment of staff, and construction of the college.
The institution will also provide the college with a bus and double cabin vehicles for Principal and lecturers' mobility in the college.
Mwingi North MP Hon Paul Nzengu stated that the NG–CDF Mwingi North Constituency will spend 25 million shillings on the construction of classes for the college, while the community has donated over 30 acres of land for the institution's construction.
Wiper Democratic Movement Leader Hon Kalonzo Musyoka, the Chief Guest during the ceremony, commended the government's efforts in opening up marginalized areas, stating that Tseikuru's economy will expand.
Kalonzo also praised KMTC Board Chair for the major developments achieved since his appointment and urged the board to hasten the construction so that the first intake can be conducted by the end of next year.
Additionally, Kalonzo urged the Kitui government to ensure proper functioning of all health centers due to the doctors' strike, which had paralyzed normal operations in public hospitals.
He also encouraged residents to invest in the construction of housing facilities to accommodate the expected influx of students and teachers once the college is operational.
Tseikuru will now boast two government institutions, namely Tseikuru Technical Training Institute and the newly established KMTC.
Prof. Micheal Kiptoo, KMTC CEO, who accompanied the two leaders, stated that the board is ready to move in after the demarcation and beckoning of the land.
