Kenya's Harambee Starlets have made a significant step towards the 2020 Tokyo Olympics after defeating Ghana in the third round of the qualifiers.

Starlets' match-winner Gentrix Shikangwa was thrilled with the win, saying it was a huge achievement for the team to down one of the best teams in the continent.

Published on October 9, 2019, Shikangwa stated, "It's a good feeling of course since it's Ghana. They are one of the best teams in the continent so the win is huge for us. We held them away from home and had the belief that we could down them at home so I'm happy that everything went on as we expected."

Shikangwa's confidence in the team's abilities is evident, as she believes that if they could down Ghana, they can do it against anyone else.

"We can reach the Olympics because if we could do it against Ghana, it means we could do it against anybody. It gives us the belief that we can make it (to the Olympics)," she said.

The team's hard work and dedication have paid off, with Shikangwa attributing the win to the coaches' guidance and the players' commitment to training.

"I don't think there was anything extraordinary we did. The coach told us to train hard because of the opponent and we did just that. The result is just a product of putting in the shift in training," she added.

Next for Shikangwa and the team is a tie against Zambia, who eliminated Botswana in the third round.
