Six Signs Your Child is in the Wrong Friendship Group

Published on October 9, 2019

As your child grows older, they evolve and change, and as a parent, it's essential to be aware of the warning signs that your child may be involved with the wrong peer group.

One of the most obvious signs is a change in behavior. If your child starts to exhibit behaviors that are out of character, such as coming home late, being overly emotional, or being withdrawn, it may be a sign that they are involved with the wrong crowd.

Another sign is a bad attitude. If your child starts to adopt a 'don't care' attitude or begins to disrespect people in authority, it may be a sign that they are picking up attitudes from their friends.

Law troubles are also a significant warning sign. If your child is involved in illegal activities or is caught at the wrong place at the wrong time, it's a clear indication that they are in the wrong company.

Suspicious behavior, such as sneaking around or engaging in secretive activities, is also a sign that your child may be involved with the wrong crowd. This can manifest in liquor breath, smoky clothes, or other suspicious behavior.

Poor school performance is another common sign that your child may be hanging out with the wrong crowd. A sudden or gradual drop in performance can indicate that your child's priorities have shifted.

Finally, if your child suddenly stops hanging out with their old friends and starts to associate with new people you don't know, it may be a sign that they are trying to rebel and are acting out.
