On October 9, 2019, Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria demanded the immediate resignation of Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen as the Leader of Majority in the Senate.

The move comes after Murkomen made comments regarding the cancellation of the Kimwarer dam project, which was part of the Sh22 billion contract alongside Arror and Itare dams.

Murkomen had criticized President Uhuru Kenyatta's decision to revoke the contract, claiming it was a deliberate act of discrimination against the Elgeyo Marakwet community.

He argued that the composition of the technical committee did not reflect ethnic and regional balance, and that the committee misled the President by not consulting anyone or conducting public participation.

However, Kuria described Murkomen's remarks as 'in bad taste' and 'unacceptable', saying that the country's leaders cannot keep tribalising everything.

He warned that such careless remarks risk putting the country at the susceptibility of a flare-up and called for Murkomen to step aside so that he can be free to make such statements.

Kuria also announced that he would ask Jubilee Secretary General Raphael Tuju to convene a meeting to discuss Murkomen's comments and how they border on his suitability as Leader of Majority.
