Yasir Salem's Inspiring 50-in-50 Marathon Challenge

On November 3, Yasir Salem will participate in the New York City marathon, marking his 50th marathon in 50 states. This incredible feat is not just a testament to his endurance but also a tribute to his late wife, Gweneviere Mann, who passed away in 2018 after a battle with lung cancer.

Yasir and Gweneviere started running marathons together in 2010, after she recovered from brain surgery. Over the next eight years, they completed eight marathons together. However, their lives took a devastating turn when Gweneviere was diagnosed with a rare form of lung cancer in the summer of 2018.

Heartbroken, Yasir decided to honor his wife's memory by running 50 marathons in 50 states, raising awareness for lung and brain cancer. So far, he has completed 46 marathons and has raised $73,000 for the Gweneviere Mann Foundation.

Yasir's journey has not been without its challenges. He has had to travel extensively, often sleeping on redeye flights, and has faced grueling courses, including the Foy's to Blacktail Trail marathon in Montana, which features 2,800 feet of climbing in the first 5K alone.

Despite the difficulties, Yasir remains committed to his cause. He is set to celebrate the NYC marathon as the 50th in his 50-in-50 effort and is inviting supporters to join him. The Gweneviere Mann Foundation is dedicated to helping people get screened for lung and brain cancers earlier, and Yasir's efforts are crucial in raising awareness for this important cause.

Supporters can join Yasir on his journey by attending the Gweneviere Mann Foundation 50-in-50 Finale Brunch Fundraiser on November 2 or by donating to the foundation at gwenmann.org. Follow Yasir on Instagram at @gwenfoundation and use the hashtag #50in50 to show your support.
