Kenya's Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria has come out guns blazing against the declaration of October 10 as Moi Day by the Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i.

According to Kuria, the declaration is a bad leadership move that will only serve to harm the country's economy.

Speaking on the matter, Kuria stated, "Waziri Matiang'i has made a grave mistake. Having two holidays within a span of 10 days will severely impact our economy," he said.

On October 8, Matiang'i announced that October 10 would be a public holiday in honor of the late President Moi, citing a 2017 High Court ruling that declared the day a public holiday.

However, the declaration has been met with opposition from Kuria, who claims that the holiday will only serve to harm the country's economy.

It is worth noting that the Moi Day celebrations were previously held before the 2010 Constitution was adopted, but were later scrapped.

However, in 2017, the High Court ruled that the day should be reinstated as a public holiday, a ruling that was upheld by the Court of Appeal.

Despite the ruling, Kuria remains opposed to the declaration, stating that it will only serve to harm the country's economy.
