On a day that highlighted the resilience of Kenya's Harambee Starlets, the team edged out Ghana 1-0 in a tightly contested match at the Moi International Sports Centre in Kasarani, securing a spot in the next round of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics football competition.

The winning goal was scored by Genitrix Shikangwa in the 99th minute from the penalty spot, capitalizing on a mistake by Juliet Acheampong who handled a goal-bound header in the box.

This victory comes as a surprise, given that the team has been struggling financially, with the Ministry of Sports failing to provide funding, leaving the players owed training allowances dating back to last year.

Despite these challenges, the team has managed to secure a spot in the penultimate stage, where they are likely to face Zambia.

Starlets had previously beaten Malawi 5-3 on aggregate in the previous round, and this win has kept Kenya's dream of competing at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics alive, for now.
