Germany national team coach Joachim Loew has expressed his admiration for Bastian Schweinsteiger, a 35-year-old midfielder who announced his retirement on October 8, 2019.

Loew welcomed Schweinsteiger to join the Germany coaching staff, saying, "We will always have a place for him."

"He is one of the greatest players in German history," Loew enthused, praising Schweinsteiger's will to win and his great personality.

Schweinsteiger, a former Bayern Munich and Manchester United midfielder, made 121 appearances for the German national team, retiring in 2016.

He helped inspire a 1-0 extra-time victory over Argentina in the 2014 World Cup final, despite a cut under his right eye.

Loew recalled the iconic moment, saying, "Everyone has a picture of him in their heads: blood-stained in the Maracana, he got up again and again and gave everything."
