October 8, 2019, marked a low point in the career of former Premier League star Saido Berahino, as an arrest warrant was issued against him.

According to reports, Berahino was due to appear in court to answer to drink-driving charges but failed to show up, prompting the authorities to issue a warrant against him.

The 26-year-old striker, who now plays for Belgian First Division club Zulte Waregem, was initially busted for drink-driving in 2019 and was fined £75,000 (approximately KSh 9 million).

However, Berahino failed to pay the fine, which was due on September 7, leading to the issuance of the arrest warrant.

Deputy District Judge Aneeta Borwick confirmed that due process had been followed and that the authorities had left no option but to pursue Berahino.

"I have considered the application in relation to Saido Berahino and I'm satisfied that the process has been followed, warnings have been sent first class and the significant sum of £75,870 remains outstanding," Borwick said.
