On October 5, 2019, detectives in Pangani arrested four suspects, including three police officers, in connection with a daring robbery at Barwaka Lodge in Eastleigh, Nairobi.
The suspects, Corporal Wilson Cheruiyot, Daniel Kipkorir, Alex Kandie, and Esome Jean Baptiste, allegedly stole $60,000 from Mr. Mohammed Hassan Mohammed and Mr. Abdullahi Hussein Yusuf at gunpoint.
According to a statement from the lodge manager, Mr. Hassan booked a room at 3pm and informed the manager that he would bring in three men later. The men, including two police officers, were cleared at the reception and entered the room at 3:18pm.
However, a fracas ensued at 9:12pm, and the suspects were seen fleeing the scene. A well-built light-skinned policeman in a black cap was seen pulling out a pistol and struggling to restrain the stolen money from Mr. Abdullahi.
Two other suspects, who are still at large, were seen pacing around a packed car opposite Shaikh Hamuood Mosque. They attempted to force Mr. Hassan into the car, but he pulled back and they snatched his mobile phone.
The suspects were arraigned at Makadara Law Courts on October 7, 2019, and were granted five more days in custody to enable detectives to complete their investigations.
