South Sudan is on the path to recovery in its oil industry, with plans to host its third Oil and Power conference in Juba on October 29-30, 2019. The conference, sponsored by Africa Oil and Power, will feature panels on oil and technology, finance, and development.

On the same note, South Sudan will launch its Petroleum Licensing Round for 2020 and a tender for Environmental Audit for its oil fields at the Annual Africa Oil and Power conference, which starts on October 9-11, 2019, in South Sudan. Senegal is also set to announce its 2020 licensing round at the same event.

South Sudan currently produces 180,000 barrels per day, but the country aims to increase production to 350,000-400,000 barrels per day by mid-2020. According to the Ministry of Petroleum, up to 70% of the country's oil reserves remain unexplored.

South Sudan's oil industry was severely affected by the civil war with Sudan in 2012, which led to the destruction of oil-producing infrastructure. However, a peace treaty signed in 2018 has paved the way for the country's slow return to the oil production big leagues.
