On October 28, 2019, the deadline for verification, owners of 584 vehicles in Kenya were still scrambling to present them for verification at National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) inspection centres across the country.
According to a public notice issued by NTSA on May 7, 2019, the owners were given 14 working days to present the vehicles, or risk having them deregistered.
The notice was issued after the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said they were looking for 444 vehicles in Kenya, which according to the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) have not been paid for the required duty.
DCI ordered all relevant security apparatus in the country to urgently trace and detain the vehicles immediately.
NTSA warned that the wanted vehicles have been restricted in any transaction and that owners must submit original and copy of the registration certificate (logbook), importation documents, National Identification card, KRA PIN Certificate, and any other document to proof ownership.
