On September 27, 2019, Ann Muihaki, a mother of seven, allegedly attempted to murder her nine-month-old daughter by administering a poisonous substance at their home in Bahraini Village, Mpeketoni, Lamu County.
Muihaki, who was arraigned before Mpeketoni Court, claimed that she was angered by the child's father, Mustafa Kibwana, who had neglected her and refused to fend for the child.
According to court documents, Muihaki had written a letter to Kibwana informing him that she was angered by his actions, and had even confessed to being a mother of seven, with Kibwana being incarcerated for defiling one of her children.
However, Muihaki's attempt to poison her daughter was foiled when the child refused to take the laced food.
Resident Magistrate Pascal Nabwana directed that Muihaki be arraigned before a Senior Resident Magistrate Court and be charged with attempted murder, citing that his court had no jurisdiction to hear the matter.
"I direct that this file be placed before the Senior Resident Magistrate in Lamu for plea taking," Nabwana ruled.
The matter will come up for plea today.
