On October 7, 2019, the Likoni Channel in Kenya was taken over by the military, effectively making it a no-go zone for the public and even the media.
The decision was made by Kenya Ferry Services Chairman Dan Mwazo, who stated that the area was under the command of the naval and KFS bosses.
"The divers who have been hired by the family from Subsea Company are here. The government has also hired three more divers from South Africa. We have also acquired machines to help in the operations. They team has therefore requested people to vacate this place so that it eases their operation," Mwazo said.
As part of the search operation, the government acquired Advanced System Remote Operated Cameras to help in the search mission, according to Col Lawrence Gituma, who is in charge of the operations.
The equipment will provide a clear view of what is under the water, allowing the team to focus on four possible locations where the sunken vehicle may be found.
