Published on October 8, 2019, a directive was issued to civil servants attached to the Nyandarua North subcounty to relocate to Ndaragwa town, with the aim of easing service delivery.

However, the Union of Kenya Civil Servants Nyandarua branch secretary general Moses Njoroge has expressed concerns that the directive was meant to curtail their efforts to have the Public Service Commission classify Ndaragwa as a hardship area.

The region is a semi-arid place with little development and extremely harsh conditions, making it difficult for officers to operate effectively.

According to Eunice Wanjira, the UKCS gender representative, the timing of the relocation is wrong, as it means moving with children in the middle of the school term, with some expected to sit for their national examinations in November.

Offices at the once Nyandarua county headquarters in Nyahururu remained vacant, with Nyandarua North DCC Walter Ngaira directing his heads of departments to relocate.

Ngaira's directive stated, 'It has been observed that some of you (heads of departments) are still operating from Nyahururu. This is to direct that you move to enhance service delivery to the public.'

However, the situation at the new offices at Ndaragwa was deplorable, with officers heaping files dating back to 1963 on the floor of the unfurnished building.
