On October 6, 2019, Sudan's Prime Minister Hamdok Abdalla emphasized the importance of removing his country from the United States' list of countries sponsoring terrorism.

Hamdok made this plea during talks with US officials, highlighting the potential benefits of delisting, including increased foreign investment and access to International Monetary Fund and World Bank packages.

As part of his efforts, Hamdok has been working to address concerns that led to Sudan's inclusion on the list in 1993, when President Omar-al-Bashir was accused of funding militant groups from unspecified countries.

Hamdok's push for delisting comes after he took office following a mass protest movement that forced out the long-serving authoritarian President Omar-al-Bashir.
