Lawyer Willie Kimani's murder in 2016 sent shockwaves through Kenya and the international community.
Kimani, a human rights lawyer, was abducted and killed along with his taxi driver Joseph Muiruri and client Josephat Mwenda.
According to a police informer, Peter Ngugi, the murder was planned and executed by four police officers from Mlolongo Administration Police Post.
Ngugi revealed that he was paid Ksh2000 for his role in the murder.
Here is an account of how the execution happened, as told by Ngugi:
"Sergeant Leonard Maina Mwangi stopped the wanted man's car and they stopped immediately. Mwangi told them that we are officers and that the three are under arrest. They were told to get out of the car and enter Sergeant Leliman's car. They did not argue. They complied with the orders."
Ngugi took possession of the car and drove it off, while Sergeant Leliman overtook him and went straight to the AP post.
Ngugi abandoned the vehicle at Kwambira and threw away the phones, but was unable to switch off one of them.
He called Leliman and told him he was on his way to Syokimau, but Leliman told him to find them at Mlolongo.
Ngugi arrived in Mlolongo at 5pm and found the officers at Connection bar, who told him that the victims were safe at Syokimau AP Post.
However, when one of the victims managed to call his wife, telling her that he had been locked in at Syokimau and had no idea where the car was, the officers were shocked.
They went to the AP post, where Mwangi handcuffed the victims from behind and they were put in the boot of a car.
Ngugi and the officers drove along the Nairobi-Mombasa Road to a bush, where they started to disagree on how to kill the victims.
After a few minutes, Kamenjo joined them and they discussed for more than three hours.
At around 9pm, a police officer came and told them that members of the public were wondering why and what they were doing there.
Ngugi and the officers then killed the victims, using a polythene bag and a rope.
They threw the bodies into the river and drove back to Mlolongo, where they ate their supper and Ngugi slept on the seat.
The four AP officers - Fredrick Leliman, Stephen Cheburet, Sylvia Wanjiku, and Leonard Maina Mwangi - and Ngugi are facing charges of killing Kimani, Mwenda, and Muiruri.
The trial is now in a crucial phase.
