On Sunday, 6 October, a white man working for the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) was captured on camera insulting a security guard at Lavington Mall in Nairobi.

The incident was shared on Twitter by Dennis Itumbi, a Deputy President William Ruto aide, who posted a screenshot of the man's car with the caption: 'This gentleman a few minutes ago was insulting guards at Nairobi's Lavington Mall. A concerned lady whose only interest was to protect the good name of your organization tried to calm him down and he dismissed her as a F Monkey.'

The ICRC acknowledged the misconduct and apologized to the victim and the public in a statement on Monday, 7 October.

Following an investigation, the ICRC team decided to fire the expatriate who mishandled the security guard at Lavington Mall.
