On a historic day at Paris Longchamp, Waldgeist, ridden by Pierre-Charles Boudot, stunned the world by denying Enable a third consecutive Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe title on October 6, 2019.

Enable, the world's most adored filly, was given a royal reception as she left the parade ring, but her fans were left in an eerie silence as Waldgeist took the honours by 2.5 lengths.

Trainer John Gosden was understandably deflated, possibly blaming the rain-soaked ground for Enable's withering state, but he congratulated all connections on their achievement.

Andre Fabre, the 73-year-old trainer, prepared Waldgeist at 16-1 to cause this major-league upset, scoring his eighth Arc win, which he first managed 32 years ago with Trempolino.

Waldgeist's future is unknown, with immediate retirement an option, but for now, the filly will be remembered for her phenomenal turn of foot and her historic victory in the 98th Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe.
