On October 7, 2019, Kenyan law firm Daly & Inamdar made a significant move by joining London-headquartered law firm CMS.
The partnership, which also includes South Africa's RM Partners, will see Daly & Inamdar trade as CMS Daly Inamdar Advocates and CMS RM Partners, offering an increased reach to clients through CMS's global network.
Despite retaining their independence, the addition of Daly & Inamdar and RM Partners will see CMS expand its tax, legal, and transaction advisory services in Africa.
With the new partnership, CMS will now have 75 offices in 43 countries and more than 4,800 lawyers worldwide, further solidifying its position as one of the oldest and largest multinational law firms.
Law firms are increasingly joining networks to access global businesses without merging, and CMS's move is a testament to this trend.
Kenya's Daly & Inamdar Advocates, formed via the merger of Daly and Figgis and Inamdar and Inamdar, has at least 35 lawyers and has been a key player in the Kenyan legal scene.
Managing Partner at CMS Daly Inamdar Advocates, Hamish Keith, said the move follows a period of close collaboration on client work and a shared commitment to service.
"This will only deepen as Kenya becomes increasingly attractive as a destination for foreign investment," he said.
Executive partner at CMS Duncan Weston said the firm sees major growth opportunities in Africa and plans to expand into key markets.
