On a day when the Kenyan Premier League's title contenders were putting on a show, Gor Mahia's 1-0 win over Zoo Kericho on October 7, 2019, sent a clear message: the reigning champions are here to stay.
With a Boniface Omondi goal in the 80th minute, Gor Mahia maintained its perfect record in the opening four matches, a feat that has left many wondering if they can pull off an unprecedented fourth consecutive title.
Meanwhile, at the other end of the table, Chemelil, Sony, and newly promoted Kisumu All-Stars are already facing the threat of relegation, with their performances so far leaving much to be desired.
"I have to stress that this is an important result because we needed to collect maximum points against a team that put in a hundred percent throughout. In the end, our quality was the difference. Our wish is to try and put together a positive run that will bring us confidence and help us achieve our targets," said Gor coach Steve Polack.
As the season unfolds, it will be interesting to see how the likes of AFC Leopards and Tusker, who are currently keeping pace with Gor Mahia, will fare in the title race.
