Published on October 7, 2019, North Korea's recent test of a sea-launched missile has sparked a heated debate at the United Nations.
Three European countries - Britain, France, and Germany - have called for a closed-door Security Council meeting to discuss the issue, labeling it a 'serious violation' of UN resolutions.
North Korea's ambassador to the UN, Kim Song, responded by saying that raising the issue would 'further urge our desire to defend our sovereignty.'
The warning comes just two days after North Korea broke off nuclear talks with the United States in Sweden, following a months-long stalemate in the wake of an unsuccessful February meeting in Hanoi between North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and US President Donald Trump.
North Korea is under three sets of UN economic sanctions, with the most severe imposed in 2017 following a nuclear test and a long-range missile test.
Pyongyang has conducted six nuclear tests since 2006, with the last one taking place on September 3, 2017.
