On Monday, Kenyatta University students clashed with police on Thika Road, causing a heavy traffic jam, as they protested over various welfare issues.

The students, led by their union boss Joshua Ayika, are demanding the resignation of Vice Chancellor Prof. Paul K. Wainaina, citing 'historical injustices.'

They are also lamenting the early deadline for fees payment, the administration's directive to use a flyover, and other issues.

The students accused the school administration of suspending students and student leaders on 'petty basis' and charging Ksh. 2500 for supplementary examinations.

According to a memo by Mr. Ayika, the Kenyatta University Students' Association (KUSA) President, the administration's actions are unfair, including the sacking of casual workers without notice and hiking of graduation fee from Ksh. 3500 to Ksh. 6000.

Mr. Ayika has issued a list of 'irreducible minimums' which include pushing the fee deadline to the last two weeks before examinations, reinstating casual workers, scrapping off supplementary fee, and returning the graduation fee to its initial figure.
