On October 7, 2019, Manchester United suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of Newcastle United, with Matty Longstaff scoring the winning goal in his first Premier League start.
Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was seen giving instructions to Andreas Pereira on the touchline, but struggled to get his message across to Scott McTominay and Fred as he urged them to sit deeper.
Despite Solskjaer's efforts, his players failed to heed his warning, and Newcastle's pacey counter-attacks ultimately led to the winning goal.
"We weren’t set up for the counter-attack," Solskjaer said in a post-match interview. "We conceded at least two goals – Everton away and Wolves away – from our own corners, maybe two against Everton in one game."
Solskjaer also acknowledged that his team's failure to defend a corner kick led to the goal, saying, "It’s impossible to get the message across, because we gave the Newcastle fans something to cheer today, we gave them a game that they wanted, end-to-end at times."
