October 7, 2019 - Despite a 3-0 win over Western Jaguars on Saturday, Wazalendo Hockey Club remains second in the Premier League with 29 points, four points behind leaders Butali Sugar Warriors who have 33 points with a game in hand.
Wazalendo head coach Fidhelis Kimanzi has conceded that the league title is out of his team's reach, stating that Butali are destined to defend their title.
“The league is very competitive and for me, I think it will be won by Butali. However, for us, we would have achieved what we wanted because my boys are playing good hockey and that is what we want. Also, I think we have been competitive this season compared to previous seasons,” said Kimanzi.
Wazalendo will face third-placed Greensharks next, followed by a match against Parklands and then leaders Butali. They will conclude the season with a clash against former champions Kenya Police.
Kimanzi has identified his team's lack of creativity as a major issue, stating that they need to create more chances and utilize them effectively.
Meanwhile, Kenya Police returned to winning ways with a 2-1 victory over Jaguars on Sunday, while Kenyatta University bounced back in the Women’s Premier League by edging Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) 1-0.
