On October 7, 2019, Rwandan President Paul Kagame officiated the launch of Mara Phones manufacturing plant in Rwanda, marking a significant step towards the country's goal of becoming a high-tech industry hub.

The plant, a partnership between Mara Group and the Rwandan government, began producing the first 'made in Rwanda' smartphones last week.

According to President Kagame, the introduction of Mara Phones will make smartphone ownership more accessible to Rwandans, citing it as another milestone in the country's journey to a high-tech industry.

With the launch of Mara Phones, Rwanda joins a growing list of countries with a thriving smartphone manufacturing industry.
