On the sidelines of the Magical Expo 2019 at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi, Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala announced the appointment of Jacinta Mbithi Nzioka as the head of the National Convention Bureau on October 7, 2019.
As the Director of Marketing at the Kenya Tourism Board, Jacinta has gained the admiration and respect of the tourism industry, and her appointment has been welcomed by stakeholders.
''It's an exciting challenge to be trusted with the responsibility to establish a world-class institution that will make Kenya competitive in the MICE sector,'' Jacinta said in an interview with The Standard.
Kenya has struggled to regain its position as a leading MICE destination in Africa, and the lack of a convention bureau has been cited as one of the reasons. The KICC, which hosts many international events, is also in need of a major overhaul.
Stakeholders have expressed confidence in Jacinta's ability to drive tourism numbers exponentially for Kenya, citing her past experience and leadership skills.
''The right individual has been picked to spearhead the National Convention Bureau. She is the right person to take the Ministry, KTB and private stakeholders' vision for Mice tourism in the country forward,'' said Bobby Kamani, Managing Director of Diani Reef Beach Resort & Spa.
