Henry Mwenda, a 32-year-old entrepreneur from Nakuru town, has been in various lines of employment and self-employment. His journey began in a slaughterhouse, where he later moved on to hawk fast-moving goods like confectioneries at matatu termini.
However, it was a joint maize roasting business with a friend that brought him initial success. Despite the venture's potential, it ultimately failed due to disagreements over ownership and control.
Undeterred, Mwenda moved on to start his own business, selling smokies and boiled eggs on a mobile pushcart. This venture, now a year old, has its own set of challenges, including high competition and harsh weather conditions.
On a good day, Mwenda makes Sh400, while on a slow day, he earns Sh300. Despite the financial struggles, he remains determined to succeed in the informal sector.
