Published on October 7, 2019, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has expressed concerns over the safety of top players after Mo Salah suffered an injury in a challenge against Leicester City.
Salah was tackled by Leicester midfielder Hamza Choudhury, who appeared to rake his Achilles tendon, forcing the Egyptian forward to limp out of the game.
Klopp was furious with the challenge, initially targeting Choudhury before expanding his criticism to the lack of protection for technical players like Salah.
"This kind of challenge to me - I don't want to speak anymore about the player - but this has to be a red card. It is just too dangerous," Klopp said.
He believes football's lawmakers must now act to outlaw challenges like the one that kicked Salah out of the game, citing the need for greater protection for top players.
Fortunately, initial checks suggest that Salah's injury is not as serious as initially feared, with club doctors hopeful that he will be treated during the international break and return to action in two weeks.
