Eight days after the tragic incident, the recovery operation of Mariam Kidenga, 35, and her four-year-old daughter Amanda Mutheu continues in the Indian Ocean.

On Sunday, the search was narrowed down to four positions, from the initial 14 identified by the Kenya Navy divers.

Government spokesperson Col. (Rtd) Cyrus Oguna explained that the four remaining positions are in a more difficult terrain, requiring a cautious approach to avoid endangering the divers.

"Taking into consideration the realities of underwater characteristics and the depths involved, the divers can only stay submerged for not more than six minutes," Oguna stated.

Due to the difficulties under the water, it will take longer to search the remaining four places, Oguna added.

From Monday, more divers from South Africa will join the recovery operation.

The two victims were on board the Toyota ISIS when the incident occurred, after the vehicle plunged into the Indian Ocean while aboard the MV Harambee ferry last Sunday evening.
