On a day that should have been filled with hope, the Kigenda family is grappling with unimaginable grief. Published on October 7, 2019, their lives were forever changed when Mariam Kigenda and her sister went missing.

For Mariam's husband, John Wambua, watching his 9-year-old son, Alvin, struggle to cope with the loss is heart-wrenching. Alvin, the couple's eldest child, is clearly distraught, and his father is doing everything in his power to support him through this difficult time.

According to John, Alvin had not stopped crying at the sight of pictures of his mother and sister circulated in the media. The boy's pain is palpable, and his father is doing everything he can to help him heal.

John broke the news to Alvin on Friday, and since then, it has been a tough road for the young boy. The counselling process, being done by experts from the Kenya Red Cross, is a crucial step in helping Alvin come to terms with his loss.

Meanwhile, the search for Mariam and her sister continues, with divers facing significant challenges due to the weather and terrain. One diver, with 11 years of experience, shared his concerns, stating, 'I HAVE 11 YEARs EXPERIENCE IN DIVING, THE CHALLENGE IS THAT THE WATER HAS TURNED DARK. THIS MEANS THAT IT WILL BE HARD TO SEE WHILE UNDER WATER. THE FERRY service WAS SUPPOSED TO BE STOPPED BUT THAT HAS NOT HAPPENED.'
