Kenya is mourning the loss of a renowned international boxing referee and judge, Stephen Vedo Okumu, who passed away on October 7, 2019, at the Kenyatta National Hospital.

Okumu, a former Olympian and retired police officer, had been admitted to the hospital a month prior to his death due to stomach complications.

Frankline Imbenzi, the Secretary General of the Kenya Professional Boxing Commission (KPBC), paid tribute to Okumu in a Facebook post, describing the loss as a significant setback for the federation.

"Death leaves heartache no one can heal. Loves leaves a memory no one can steal," Imbenzi wrote, adding, "Kenya professional boxing commission has lost one of its international referee and Judge Stephen Vedo Okumu. Shine on your way boss."
