On October 7, 2019, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) issued a warning to Kenyans against buying electronic gadgets from individuals or dealers without proper authorization documents.

The DCI advised Kenyans to be cautious when purchasing electronic devices such as laptops, mobile phones, and television sets from unknown or unverified dealers.

According to the DCI, buying electronic devices from suspicious outlets can be 'RISKY & DANGEROUS' as most of these devices may be stolen items from armed gangsters who have violently robbed innocent citizens.

As stated in a tweet, 'DON'T buy a device of a fellow Murdered or Maimed Kenyan. When Police Forensically Investigate and find you in possession of such said devices, by the time it is established that you were not involved in the crime, you may have suffered immensely.'

The DCI further urged electronic dealers to mark every electronic gadget bought by a customer with indelible initials for safety and security purposes, making it harder for criminals to hawk the devices and easier for investigative agencies to track and identify them.

Members of the public were urged to report any gadgets of suspicious source to the nearest Police Station or DCI Office in confidence.
