On October 7, 2019, Anne Mvurya, the University of Nairobi's first female student leader, met with Raila Odinga, the leader of the Orange Democratic Movement.
Mvurya, a 24-year-old law student, was elected as the leader of the University of Nairobi Students' Association (UNSA) on April 7, 2019, after garnering 24 votes against her competitor's eight.
She replaced former student leader Anthony Manyara and became the first female to hold the position in nearly 50 years since the association was formed.
Over the years, the University of Nairobi has produced many male politicians, including Embakasi East Member of Parliament Paul Ongili alias Babu Owino.
Through her Twitter handle, Mvurya shared photos of her meeting with Raila, saying that her comrades' mission remains blessed, endorsed, and supported from end to end.
She quoted Raila as saying, 'In order to succeed, your desire for success should be much stronger than your fear of failure.'
Many of Mvurya's comrades congratulated her on her achievement, with some expressing their admiration for her leadership skills and potential to make a positive impact in the future.
