On October 7, 2019, the family of Mariam Khagenda and her daughter Amanda, who tragically lost their lives when their vehicle plunged into the Indian Ocean, received an unexpected offer from some influential Coastal community leaders.
According to reports, these leaders suggested that the family perform rituals, including slaughtering a cow and inviting 'special' groups to chant incantations, in order to retrieve the bodies.
However, Mariam's husband, John Wambua, a steadfast Christian, refused to comply with these requests, choosing instead to maintain a vigil at the Likoni channel with family, friends, and associates, praying for the rescue mission to be successful.
The family remains hopeful that they will be able to retrieve their loved ones from the ocean waters and give them a warm burial, allowing their souls to finally rest in peace.
As the search mission enters its 8th day with no success, the family's determination to find closure remains unwavering.
