On Saturday night, a group of passengers traveling in a 14-seater matatu from Nyahururu to Nairobi fell victim to a daring hijacking and robbery.

According to police reports, the incident occurred when one of the passengers requested to alight, prompting the driver to step out and assist him in removing his luggage from the back of the vehicle.

However, the unsuspecting driver was unaware that the passenger was actually a robber, who was joined by four accomplices who had been hiding in the vehicle.

The five gangsters then ordered all the passengers to lie down inside the matatu before commandeering the vehicle and driving it to an unknown location.

After parking the vehicle in a remote area, the passengers were forced to hand over their cash, with the gangsters making them withdraw money from their M-Pesa and KCB M-Pesa accounts.

Police reports indicate that the gangsters made off with over Sh 100,000 and several mobile phones, although no one was injured in the incident, which occurred around 9:30pm.

Fortunately, the driver later reported the incident to the Lari Police Station, where the authorities are investigating the matter.
