IAAF World Championships: Kenya Secures 4 Gold Medals in Doha

Published on October 7, 2019, Hellen Obiri made history at the IAAF world championships in Doha, successfully defending her world 5,000 meters title.

Obiri led from the gun to tape, securing Kenya's fourth gold medal in the process. The 29-year-old crossed the finish line in 14:26.7, setting a new Championship Record.

Her compatriot Margaret Chelimo bagged Kenya's first silver medal in the competition, coming second behind Obiri in 14:27.4, her personal best.

Kenya's impressive performance at the championships has placed the country in second position on the medal table, with a total of nine medals, including four gold, two silver, and three bronze medals.

Other notable performances from Kenyan athletes include Ruth Chepngetich's gold medal in the women's marathon and Beatrice Chepkoech's gold medal in the women's 3,000 meters steeplechase final.

Defending champion Conseslus Kipruto also successfully defended his 3,000 meters steeplechase world title on Friday.
