Published on October 6, 2019, Manchester City's Premier League title defense took a hit with a 2-0 shock defeat at the Etihad Stadium against Wolves.

Manchester City, the reigning Premier League champions, were left stunned after the defeat, which saw them fall eight points behind leaders Liverpool.

According to Pep Guardiola, the City boss, his team was well below their best on the day, lacking their usual sharpness and allowing nerves to get the better of them.

"It was not our best day. We let them run twice, got nervous a little bit and our process to create chances was not good," Guardiola said.

Guardiola's team had problems on the counter-attack and struggled to create chances, ultimately paying the price for their lack of organization and composure.

Despite the setback, Guardiola remains optimistic, drawing on the team's experience of overturning a seven-point deficit to Liverpool in the title race last season.

"We had two chances, one onto the crossbar and with Bernardo Silva. They did really well," Guardiola said.

Manchester City will look to bounce back when they return to action after the international break.
