On October 6, 2019, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations announced the arrest of three more suspects linked to the murder of Chetan Vyas at the Rai Cement Factory on the border of Kisumu and Kericho counties on September 22.
The suspects, 52-year-old Daniel Ruto, Michael Nicholas Mibei (42), and Hillary Cheruiyot Kemboi (32), are being held over the crime. According to the DCI, the remains of a destroyed Samsung phone belonging to the victim were recovered from the suspects.
DCI Kinoti stated, 'The killers are believed to have destroyed the phone in an attempt to try to erase traces of evidence.'
Additionally, several other SIM cards linked to other crimes were recovered from one of the suspects' (Mibei) house.
The suspects have been placed in custody and are assisting in further investigations, said Kinoti.
Earlier on Saturday, five supervisors at the firm were arrested after extensive forensic investigations placed them at the scene of the crime. The suspects include 38-year-old Salim, 24-year-old Osman Noor, Mohammed Shahid, 38, Yacob Ali, 24, and 29-year-old Shabdin Ismail.
The DCI is also investigating the aspect of terror in the murder of Vyas.
