Kenya's Strong Showing at 2019 Athletics World Championships

The United States topped the current medal table at the 2019 Athletics World Championships in Doha, Qatar, with Kenya coming in a distant second. The US had a commanding lead with 25 medals, including 11 gold medals, while Kenya trailed closely behind with nine medals, including four gold medals.

Kenya's athletes made a strong impression, with Ruth Chepngetich earning the first gold of the competition in the women's marathon. Beatrice Chepkoech also produced an impressive performance, securing a gold medal in the women's 3000 meters steeplechase final on September 30.

Conseslus Kipruto successfully defended his 3000 meters steeplechase world title on Friday, edging out Lamecha Girma of Ethiopia. Hellen Obiri also successfully defended her world 5,000 meters title in Doha on Saturday, timing a championship record 14min 26.72sec.

Kenya will be hoping to add to its tally on the final day of the championships. Jamaica ranks third with nine medals, including two gold, followed by China with nine medals, including three gold. Ethiopia stands fifth with seven medals, including two gold.
