Kenya Railways has backtracked on a directive that prohibited food items on trains, citing negative customer feedback.

On October 6, 2019, the company had issued a notice stating that all passengers would be searched and food items confiscated at all checkpoints at the termini and stations.

The move sparked outrage, with one woman stripping at the SGR Mombasa terminus after being denied entry onto a train with food for her year-old child.

However, the ban on alcoholic beverages remains in place, with Kenya Railways stating that the directive will continue to be enforced.

A woman's protest at the SGR Mombasa terminus drew attention to the issue.
